Granite outlasts everyone who chooses it, but time will leave its mark. Most of what happens to a stone over twenty years is normal and fixable.
Ground settles, and a stone that was level in 1998 can lean by now. Sprinklers leave mineral deposits. Trees drop sap, and lichen takes hold on the shaded side. Lettering loses its paint or gold leaf and stops reading clearly, and we can touch both back up. It is what weather and time do to stone left outdoors.

Mineral deposits, sap and lichen taken off the stone.
A stone that has settled or leaned is lifted and set level again.
Paint and gold leaf restored so the names read clearly from a distance again.
